Thankyou for your email Mal, I did over hear part of your discussion with Daniel Rowley at the Field Day. When the Waste Management Plan was developed by Council following many months of research,advice and consultation, Council was aware that within the plan there was no reward for the ratepayers who reduced their waste output. It is a complex issue and one that led to lengthy discussion and investigation at the time. The initial and ongoing cost of waste management is a huge impost on our small community, and the extra cost of resourcing, weighing, recording, and billing for each assessment was eventually dismissed. Council instead contracted KESAB to develop an ongoing education campaign to encourage everyone to reuse, recycle and reduce. Council has only recently received a final report from KESAB, and we believe this program has been effective in changing attitudes on KI. I will ask that your email be tabled at the next Council meeting, to allow Council to formally consider and reply to your concerns and suggestions. I have also forwarded your email to our officers in reference to the issues at the Kingscote wharf.
